The USB Board of Directors created the Compliance Committee to develop an improved compliance program. This program supports the logo efforts by validating the claim of "substantial spec compliance" used with the logo. The Compliance Committee charter is to create a reproducible test procedure that accomplishes the same compliance testing that is currently done in the USB-IF Compliance Workshops. This will allow the Compliance Workshops to focus on the functional testing that is their area of expertise.
The test procedure is being created using a peripheral test document that precisely defines the testing being done today in workshops, including clear step-by-step instructions and details on tools, equipment and analysis. Cables and connectors are not tested as part of the compliance workshops, but need a test procedure. A second document is being created that also defines the steps to verify that a detachable USB cable meets the USB Specification.
