With the onset of EU legislation for common charging there is a need by OEMs to provide documentation that demonstrates their product(s) conform. These legislations define the mandatory interoperability requirements for using USB-C® and USB Power Delivery as specified in the IEC 62680 (USB) Standards, (EN IEC 62680-1-3, EN IEC 62680-1-2). Such legislations include the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) for specific Portable Battery Powered devices, which takes effect December 28, 2024, except for Laptop PC’s which will take effect on April 28, 2026, and upcoming amendments to RED, ErP Lot 7 for External Power Supplies (EPS).
The USB-IF Conformity to the IEC 62680 (USB) Standards program is a new program which provides OEMs/ODMs an avenue to generate documentation that their product(s) conform to the IEC 62680 (USB) Standards referenced in the EU legislations. This program is a subset of the USB-IF Certification programs for USB-C and USB Power Delivery.
Note: The USB-IF recognizes EU legislation’s allowance for proprietary charging protocols. Products that support such protocols will also be accepted by the USB-IF for participation in this program.
For USB Type-C® Cables and USB Type-C® Connectors (both plugs and receptacles) the IEC 62680 Conformity Program requirements are the same as the USB-IF full certification program. For cable and connector developers seeking IEC 62680 Conformity, please use the standard USB-IF certification and registration process by completing the respective cable or connector registration forms located here.
The USB-IF has identified the minimal required tests for conformity to this program. Below is a summarized list of tests for the three product types that can be submitted under the program:

Registering Your Product
For a list of USB-IF authorized test labs please visit https://www.usb.org/labs. To register your product for testing with the USB-IF your company must have a USB Vendor ID (VID). For information on obtaining a USB-IF VID please visit https://www.usb.org/getting-vendor-id or email admin@usb.org. To register your product please login to your USB-IF account here. Once logged in click on the Compliance Management Area link then Register a Product - IEC 62680 Conformity.
USB-IF Notice of Conformity to IEC 62680 Specifications
Once a product has passed the USB-IF conformity testing the OEM will receive the following notification from the USB-IF:

TID XXXX, listed as Marketing Name: XXXX – XXXXX has passed USB-IF Conformity testing for IEC 62680 (USB) standards and is listed on the USB-IF IEC 62680 conformity list in support of the EU Common Charger Directive and other related EU legislations (such as RED, ErP Lot 7) as having passed the XXXX. Testing for this product was performed at XXXX.
IEC 62680 Compliant Notification: This Notice of Conformity serves as a validation/confirmation from the USB-IF that the products in question are interoperable to the corresponding IEC 62680 (USB) standards noted below:
- USB Type-C® Cable and Connector Specification: IEC 62680-1-3:2022
- USB Power Delivery specification: IEC 62680-1-2:2022
- Only applies to products that support USB Power Delivery
Note that USB specifications are backwards-compatible such that products that are compliant to the newer revisions of the USB specifications will still meet the conformity requirements to the IEC 62680 (USB) standards.
